Here at Saint Ann School we have a rich history of parent and
parish involvement helping to support and enrich our programs.
Home-School
Association
The history of the Home-School
Association is firmly entwined with the history of Saint Ann School
itself. Originally founded as a support and discussion forum for
parents and teachers, the group operated under a constitution that
expressly forbade fund raising. The Saint Ann’s Men’s League, an active
parish component through the 1950’s and 1960’s, ran a Friday night bingo
whose proceeds went directly to support the school.
By the 1970’s a major sea
change was sweeping through the archdiocese, and the Home-School
Association was awash in transition. Schools were to be more
financially independent of their parishes, and Home-School Associations
were to raise funds. At Saint Ann’s that directive translated into
student sales campaigns (We sold candles for the first two years!) and
into the group’s taking on the responsibility for Friday night bingo,
which continued into the mid-1990’s.
Today the Home-School
Association’s slate of activities continues to expand. In addition to a
full calendar of fund-raisers, the group now sponsors a number of
“feel-good” activities like the annual Father-Daughter dance, lunch with
Santa, a teacher appreciation Mass and reception, and Grandparents Day.
Despite
all the changes in its focus, Saint Ann’s Home-School Association
remains true to the ideas which prompted its founding: to support Saint
Ann School and to build and enliven a true spirit of community.

If you love kids and you love to read,
Library Aide might be the perfect ministry for you! The school’s Janet
Rigely Memorial Library has more than 12,000 books on its shelves –
fiction, non-fiction and reference – making it a marvelous resource for
our students.
Library Aides check the books in and out,
put them away, sort them and discard any that are damaged or outdated.
Aides maintain the bulletin board outside the computer lab and use their
creative skills to promote and foster a love of reading.
Sounds terrific!
Sign on through the school office (878-2738). Thank you.

Lunch
Aide
From
Monday through Friday the Saint Ann School kitchen hums with activity as
dedicated volunteers prepare and serve healthy, scrumptious and fun
meals to the students during the various lunch waves.
In the wee hours of the morning,
when most of us are sleeping, bright-eyed drivers deliver bread and
milk. If you are very observant (and an early riser!) you might see the
trucks making their rounds, delivering the ingredients for a great meal.
Lunch Aides help out from 11 in the
morning until 1 in the afternoon. If you would like to be a part of our
fun-loving, indispensable “lunch bunch,” please volunteer by calling the
school office (878-2738).

Oyster
Festival
Saint
Ann’s has become a regular and welcome presence at Milford’s Oyster
Festival, offering food, drinks, smiles and
information to a receptive
public.
What comes across
as a seamless effort requires a great group of volunteers and a wealth
of creative planning. The Oyster Festival is held on a
Saturday in August from 10 AM until 6 PM in downtown Milford. If you’d
like to join Team Oyster, please let us know.
