Goals
When students enter seventh grade, they will solidify the skills
they have mastered in the previous year. Once this is accomplished,
the students will move on to a higher level of learning where they
will become prepared for eighth grade and high school.
Curriculum
Our curriculum includes Religion, Science, Mathematics, Geography,
History and Literature in addition to Vocabulary, Spanish, Art,
Physical Education, Music, Library and Computers - where the
students utilize our technology partnership with the University of
Richmond and Boston University as well as our School Technology
Program, which makes it a fully integrated technology based
curriculum. Within the classroom I am able to create PowerPoint
presentations, web quests, and connect with educational internet
sites, all of which can be projected to the television for students
to observe. I also actively use the overhead projector, which makes
me aware of every movement that the children make and allows for
classroom discussions while writing or using pre-made projector
sheets. All middle school teachers work together to help students
progress and mature into young adults. We follow the Archdiocesan
Curriculum Guidelines and use different manipulatives to enhance the
students' learning and adhere to each student's learning style.
Significant Projects
In Geography the students do a number of small projects including
brochures, models and country research.
In Literature the students spend the third quarter on a project
called, "the Multi-Genre Literary Research Project." Here the students
will choose a person, place or event that they would like to become more
knowledgeable about. Every week the students will learn a different
genre of writing and apply it to the chosen topic. The students will
learn to write from different perspectives and include all of their
creative senses. They will create a multi-genre presentation for the
class and later for their parents. On "Parents' Night" the students will
fully take on the personality and identity of their topic by dressing
up! It's a big event!

Megan feels blessed
with the opportunity to teach at Saint Ann School. This is her
second
year at Saint Ann’s.
A graduate of Saint
Mary School, also in Milford, Megan continued her Catholic education at
Saint Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut. Feeling called to
become a teacher, she studied Elementary Education and Special Education
at Salve Regina University, a Catholic university in Newport, Rhode
Island. While at SRU, Megan did her student teaching in a third grade
classroom as well as building experience in grades one, four, five and
six. For the past six years she has worked with children from ages four
to fourteen at The Hide Out Daycare, After School Program, and Summer
Camp in Shelton.
Megan loves to read,
exercise and make up catchy songs for her math classes to sing!
She believes that
all children have the ability and the right to learn in a school and
classroom full of respect, kindness, generosity and understanding. Her
philosophy of education includes a strong focus on communication between
home and school. Students should have the opportunity to learn and
practice their faith and to incorporate these values, morals, and ethics
into the classroom and expand this way of life into the community.
Megan is excited to
be here and proud to continue the Saint Ann tradition of an excellent
education and a bright future for our students. |
